LINDENWOLD MERRY-GO-RAIL 2010
NJ TRANSIT ATLANTIC CITY LINE, LINDENWOLD, NJ

THIS PROPOSAL ADDRESSES A 60' LONG PASSANGER TUNNEL
BETWEEN THE RAIL ROAD AND PARKING LOT AND THE STATION WAITING ROOM

Inspired by images of Lindenwold’s history as a transportation hub, our thoughts traveled to the idea of the “Iron Horse”, a common metaphor for a train.  Trains are an important identifier for Lindenwold.  The horse is the NJ State animal, the train line travels through horse farms (past and present), there’s the famous diving horse in Atlantic City, the Atlantic City Race Track, as well as the White Horse Pike and Black Horse Pike, both signifying South Jersey roads leading to Atlantic City.  There are also merry-go-rounds in amusement parks in both Atlantic City on one end and Clementon Park (near Lindenwold) on the other end.  This proposal represents train cars but also has the sensation of the merry-go-round with a focus on playfulness.  We suspect play and recreation reflects the purpose of most riders utilizing this train line.

TUNNEL WALLS

STATION WALLS

Each train car will be made of cast aluminum made from molds created in our studios. They will resemble old cast iron toys.  They will be about 2’ wide, 18”-30” tall, and 3/8” deep.  They will be primed and custom painted with acrylics and completed with varnish. The finish will be suitable to withstand harsh exterior conditions.  The color pallet will include basic colors of black, white, red, yellow, blue, orange and green.  The painting style will be semi-opaque so the feel of the metal is not overpowered by the paint.  The objects will be arranged in a line on each side of the tunnel wall.  We estimate that the budget allows us to make 40 parts, 32 along the tunnel walls and 8 on the waiting room wall.
